Every person knows that there is musical memory - a human ability to remember long sequence of musical sounds. Some people can remember all musical works , pieces and perform them by memory. Some people just born with this talent while others can develop it till certain extent. But no many people know that same can be with visual memory. It is known in art history that some painters had phenomenal visual memory and were able to remember whole interior, or portrait at first sight. I did experiment - "How I can remember and perform something just by memory". I had book with Rembrandt works. So by rules I can look on one of Rembrandt self portrait for some time then I should close book and copy what I saw.

Immediate feeling after closing book was that whole information was gone and I did not remember anything. But I started to draw and what was fantastic my drawing and lines just go and intuitively recovered picture. I looked at picture I did and found quite good consistent with original. In fact I even found that our memory does very smart thing. Parts of face or some details which are not so important for character (not highest priority) were not recorded. So our memory just sorts things and left only most important of them.

All of sudden I open for myself Henri Matisse recently when I have tried to develop web site. This opening was so unexpected so I thank life for such nice surprise. In fact I thought that I knew Matisse works quite well from my childhood I felt that I was surrounded by Matisse works. The large if not say largest collections of Matisse works in Pushkin Museum in Moscow was shown in many books and postcards. They were everywhere. Later when I start to be interested in Art I read in book about Matisse color. In that book I saw picture of work with red fish. I remember this nice work with very light colors and beautiful harmony.

I did my opening recently when was trying to prepare some pictures for my website design. I did search in internet. And internet showed me collection of Matisse works which were so well color balanced and in so good color harmony that I was impressed.

May be the best characteristics of Marc Chagall as a painter was done by Pablo Picasso : "When Matisse died, Chagall will be the only painter left who understands what color is. I'm not exactly crazy about those cocks and asses and flying fiddlers and the folklore, but his canvases are really painted, not just tossed together. Some of the last things he's done in Venice convince me that there's never been anybody since Renoir who has the feeling for light that Chagall has."
